MG promises a lifetime guarantee on electric car batteries

Chinese MG claims they turn 100 this year. However, the business was founded in 2006. But to celebrate, the brand is giving some drivers a lifetime warranty on the battery.

MG claims they turn 100 this year. However, the Chinese brand was only founded in April 2006. Nevertheless, the Chinese celebrate it with a lifetime warranty on batteries.

But only for some drivers. In fact, the lifetime warranty is only available in one country – namely Thailand. And that only on four models: MG4 Electric, MG Maxus 9, MG Maxus 7 and the new MG Cyberster.

– MG is the brand that paves the way and establishes the popularity of the electric car in Thailand.

– By constantly crossing new boundaries for electric cars, the company has introduced a wide range of products that fully match the needs and requirements of motorists, claims Pongsak Lertruedeewattanavong, who is deputy director of MG Sales in Thailand, according to the Bangkok Post.

The guarantee, which currently only applies to MG's Thai customers, does not only apply to new customers in the store, however. The car brand will also cover drivers who have previously sold cars to in the country under the scheme.

Here at home, the MG importer is very far from offering a lifetime guarantee on anything. Instead, the Danes have to settle for 7 years or 150,000 kilometers, depending on which battery pack dies first.

MG is, as far as is known, the first car brand in the whole world to promise drivers a lifetime warranty on the battery pack. However, the warranty may turn out to be worth very little.

According to a new analysis, only a very few of the Chinese car brands can make money despite massive – and illegal – state support.

By 2031, several of China's over 130 car brands will have gone bankrupt, while just one in seven will be a profitable business by then. Read more about it here .
