Motorist is right – Tesla owes him almost 1 million kroner

A Swedish man has received the consumer complaints board's word that he did not get the car he paid 800,000 kroner for when Tesla delivered it.

Tesla must buy back a car from a Swedish man in Gothenburg. And Tesla doesn't just have to buy the car back. The man who bought the car in 2022 must get the full new car price back.

The Swedes' response to the consumer complaints board Allmänna Reklamentationsnämnden has just decided that. This is written by Sveriges Radio .

The whole case stems from the fact that the car the man then tested had parking sensors. But when he got his car delivered, Tesla had replaced the parking sensors with cameras.

Such a thing, both the man and his lawyer believed, is a breach of the contract law in Sweden. And they have now received the Consumer Complaints Board's word for that.

Therefore, Tesla must buy the car back at the original price of SEK 800,000. This corresponds to 516,000 Danish kroner at the current exchange rate.

Tesla may choose not to follow the Consumer Appeals Board's decision. But if that happens, the car brand ends up on a so-called 'black list'. We also have one like this in Denmark.

Here at home, the list is administered by the Complaints Board for Cars and is called the 'eaves cupboard'. A list Tesla in Denmark is actually already on. Even as the only car importer in Denmark.

Most recently, Tesla in Denmark lost a dispute over the replacement of a used battery in a Tesla Model S from 2015. However, the car brand will not recognize the board's rulings.

On the other hand, Tesla can note that it is once again the preferred car brand among Danish drivers. Figures from De Danske Bilimportorer show that Elon Musk and Co. is far ahead of the other brands in the top three – respectively Volkswagen and Toyota.
