Stupid Audi owner ended up in prison – was on his way to Denmark

An Audi Q4 owner reported his car stolen on the border between Norway and Sweden. The trip to Denmark ended up costing 75 days in prison.

A Norwegian Audi Q4 owner has been convicted of fraud, which has cost him 75 days in prison.

The insurance company itself began digging into the case when the car was later found in Germany, where another person tried to register the car in his own name.

This is written by Norwegian TV2 .

The Audi owner informed the insurance company that he 'was on his way to political fashion in Denmark' when the car was stolen on the border between Norway and Sweden. At the same time, however, he suffered from amnesia, so his explanation constantly changed.

On that basis, the insurance company chose to deny compensation to the Audi owner. Instead, he was reported to the police for fraud. And that is the case that has now been settled with a sentence of 75 days in prison.

And when the man gets out, he may find it more than difficult to ever insure anything again. This is what the insurance company Fremtind tells Norwegian TV2.

– There are strict rules for which information the insurance companies may share with each other. Nevertheless, the legislation allows information to be shared in special cases when the purpose is precisely to uncover or fight economic crime, it says.

A review from Finans Norge Forsikringsdrift shows that in 2023 alone, the country's police received reports of insurance fraud for almost half a billion Norwegian kroner. This corresponds to 320 million Danish kroner. It is most often home, car and travel insurance that are attempted to be defrauded.
