Mercedes' sales of electric cars are in free fall, all while sales of plug-in hybrids are up by 524 percent.

This is how much Mercedes' sales of electric cars have fallen. And that alone in the US. The importer's accounts show that year to date only half as many electric cars have been sold as in the same period last year.
And if you look at models like EQS, it's even worse. Here the curve is broken and on its way down to a whopping 57 percent.

The news comes shortly after the parent company in Germany decided to take a few steps back from electric cars.
Among other things, Mercedes is stopping the construction plans for two out of eight battery factories, which are planned in various places around the world. In addition, the brand will spend a total of DKK 105 billion on special internal combustion engines. Read more about it here.
However, the American importer can take comfort in the fact that sales of Mercedes' plug-in hybrids are going well. In fact, it rumbles forward with a plus of 524 percent.
It is especially the new CLE that pulls the load with 3,424 cars. But the hybrid versions of the top model in the SUV range, the GLS, also help. With an increase in sales of 28 percent, it has become 6,789 cars in the second quarter of 2024.
It is not more than a little over a year ago that Mercedes' dealers in the United States admitted that it is more than difficult to sell the brand's electric cars. The customers simply go away.
Conversely, not all of Mercedes' internal combustion engines sell well either. The factory has been beaten to such an extent for equipping the C63 AMG with just four cylinders. The dealers in Germany say that the order books are gaping empty. Read more about it here .
