Fined DKK 1 billion for cheating with 6 million cars

The GM group, which includes car brands such as Chevrolet and Cadillac, has for years lied about the emissions from almost 6 million cars. It costs DKK 1 billion.

The GM group has the main role in a new emissions scandal. The car group has for years complained about the emissions from 5.9 million cars.

This is written by several media – i.a. other CBS News .

A total of 5.9 million cars are covered in the case. The cars are said to have had more than ten percent higher carbon dioxide emissions than General Motors has informed the authorities.

However, General Motors does not believe that the group has done anything wrong. On the contrary, the group believes that all cars, which the group has deliberately cheated with, comply with all 'applicable requirements'.

Still, the Americans have chosen to accept the penalty. Something that is believed to be "the best measure to quickly solve the problem with the government in this case".

General Motors is just the latest in a series of car groups that have had to shell out money to cheat around environmental requirements. As recently as this year, it has emerged that both Volkswagen and BMW are still cheating with the emissions from diesel cars.

It's also crazy in Japan. Here, the authorities are considering whether to withdraw the approvals of a number of Toyota's diesel engines. Read more about why here .
