New Pagani Huayra gets the world's most unique gearbox

There is no car with a gearbox like the one Pagani equips the new Huayra Epitome with. Only one copy will be built.

The bad news when talking about the Huayra Epitome is that unfortunately only one copy will be built.

Unfortunately, who the buyer is is also not publicly known. But on the other hand, that person can enjoy driving around in a car that is equipped with the world's most unique gearbox.

At least Pagani himself thinks so.

The car is built by Pagani's special department Grandi Complicazioni, and they have taken care to couple the advanced technology with a 6-liter V12 engine with twin turbos from German AMG.

So the car produces a whopping 864 horsepower and 1,100 Nm. All the horsepower and the uncanny amount of torque goes directly into a seven-speed manual gearbox. The first ever in a Pagani at all.

The technology in the gearbox has been developed in collaboration between the car factory and the British engineering company Xtrac Transmission Technology. The gearbox is a so-called 'three-blade' clutch. This should make each shift as potent as possible.

– Thanks to an electronically controlled differential and a tri-pod drive axle in racing trim, the seven-speed transverse gearbox from Xtrac makes it possible to transfer all the power and the exceptional response from the engine to the road, explains Pagani.

The engine is otherwise electronically limited to a top speed of 350 km/h. Presumably to avoid ripping the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires to shreds right away.

Grandi Complicazioni also says that it took 9 months just to develop the concept. Conceiving, designing and developing the Huayra Epitome took another 10 months. It is in such cases that you should not ask for the price.

But now that we're at it, the 'ordinary' Huayra, if you can talk about it at a brand that builds a good 40 cars a year, costs up to 3.1 million euros. This corresponds to 23.1 million Danish kroner.
