The rim company BBS close to bankruptcy – employees do not get paid

The last 240 employees who remain at the rim company BBS have not been paid for several months. However, they haven't had anything to do either.

It has not been luck – or any salvation for the German rim company BBS – that in December 2023 it was acquired by a Turkish holding company.

And now BBS faces the company's fifth bankruptcy in 20 years. The last 240 employees who remain at the factory in Schiltach really have nothing to do.

Because according to the German media T-Online, the order has been lost. There have been doubts about the rights of the previous owners, and worst of all, the employees have not been paid in either May or June.

– The future of BBS is completely open at the moment, says Stefan Prutscher, political secretary at the trade union IG Metall, to the media.

Stefan Prutscher also says that production at BBS has largely been at a standstill for several months. With only a few exceptions, there has been something to do.

The trade unionist also states that the Turkish owners are not present at the factory and that they are otherwise not to be contacted at this time. BBS has also had to see 30 employees resign since the Turkish takeover last December.

BBS was founded in 1970 and primarily produces aluminum rims for cars. The name is a contraction of the surnames of the two founders and the company's headquarters: Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand in Schiltach.

The rim company has now avoided bankruptcy four times by changing strategy, owners and market. Maybe there is enough luck left for a fifth time?
