Car brands warn against own floor mats – they are dangerous

At least one Rivian owner has used floor mats from the first generation R1 model in the latest bottling despite a very clear warning of the consequences.

Floor mats are not as innocent as they appear.

Several times over the past few years, car brands have had to warn against dangerous floor mats. Primarily because these risk wedging the accelerator.

Now comes the warning from Rivian, which recently received a gigantic investment from Volkswagen. Read more about it here .

Rivian says that the floor mats, which are used in the first versions of the SUV R1, cannot be used in the facelifted car. There is a risk that the floor mats will cause the accelerator to get stuck.

The car brand even writes this directly on its website , where the floor mats can be bought loose as extra accessories.

Still, at least one Rivian R1 owner can tell of the terrifying consequences of going against the recommendation.

– The accelerator stuck behind the floor mat, causing the car to accelerate quickly. It's all due to a small cutout for the accelerator. A cutout which is necessary in the facelifted Rivian but not in the first version of the car.

The moral of it all? That not all accidents are the fault of the car brands. Behind the wheel, there can also easily be a rather large error.

This is, for example, the case in the USA, where a Tesla owner recently had to admit that he blindly trusted the car's autopilot. A system that acknowledged the trust in torpedoing a motorcyclist, who was killed on the spot. Read more about it here .

Back at Rivian, this year the brand has put a lid on plans to come to Europe with a smaller SUV. In the first instance to England. It is not yet known whether Denmark is included in the list of European countries where Rivian settles.
