BMW chopped off 68-year-old's finger – must pay 13 million kroner

A 68-year-old BMW owner has received 13 million kroner plus the loss in compensation, because his BMW with soft close cut off one of his fingers way back in 2016.

68-year-old Godwin Boateng from Long Island in New York got off completely wrong when his BMW X5 with soft close on the doors chopped off his finger.

However, it is only now that the case has been decided in Godwin Boateng's favour.

The New York Post writes that.

Both the judge and the jury in the case have given BMW, which otherwise believes that Boateng was partly to blame for the accident, the entire blame.

Among other things. because during the course of the case, the car brand has admitted that 44 accidents with the brand's soft close doors have been registered around the world. And that alone in 2016, when Boateng was also injured.

The BMW owner's lawyer explains to the New York Post that although his client still owns the X5 that chopped off his finger in 2016, the 68-year-old has suffered significant functional impairments.

Godwin Boateng finds it difficult to write today. Just as he has had to undergo several operations around the finger, which is no longer there.

BMW continues to deny any responsibility in the accident at all. Therefore, the car brand's lawyers are now also considering whether the case should be appealed.

It is not the first time that drivers have gone astray due to technology in cars. But it need not always be the fault of the car brands.

For example, Tesla cannot be blamed for the accident that recently claimed the life of a motorcyclist because a Model 3 owner relied too much on the car's capabilities. Read more about it here .
