Ford's director demands that the US support the electric car unconditionally

The US needs to support the electric car unconditionally, says Ford's managing director Jim Farley. Even car enthusiasts should give the electric car a chance, he says.

There is not much to discuss. At least not according to Ford CEO Jim Farley.

The electric car needs unconditional support. Even people who call themselves car enthusiasts must support the car type, Ford demands.

In a post on LinkedIn, Farley describes himself as someone who 'has always had petrol in his blood, but who also loves electric cars'.

In the same posting, Farley claims that he did not fall for the electric car because the US government pumps money into support schemes for the owners, but because he himself owns one. So an electric car.

However, Farley does not write whether he also paid for the car himself, or whether it – an F-150 Lightning – is part of the loan package.

Very speaking of the F-150 Lightning, it is a car Ford has more than a hard time selling. So much so, in fact, that the production target and the number of shift changes on the assembly line have been cut significantly.

Ford also finds it difficult to make money on electric cars. Earlier this year, the brand itself said that it loses DKK 1 million on every single electric car the employees build. Still, Farley doesn't think Ford can afford to lose money on anything. Read more about it here .

In the post on LinkedIn, Farley also tries to defend the electric car against the criticism by saying that Ford was also criticized for making aluminum bodies. At least in the beginning.

Therefore, the United States also needs to support the electric car unconditionally, if it is not to fall behind in relation to the competition from China, Europe or any other region.

There are indications, however, that conditions in the United States are not going exactly the way Farley demands. Several states have just dropped a ceiling to ban everything but new electric cars in 2035, and the Biden government has also relaxed the requirements for the industry. Read more about it here .
