Regrets – won't ban petrol cars in 2035 anyway

The Democratic Party in the US state of Connecticut has dropped plans to ban new diesel and gasoline cars by 2035.

It should have been the case that everything but electric cars and hybrids were banned in the US state of Connecticut from 2035.

But now the Democratic Party is undoing their own proposal. The state would otherwise have been the 15th of its kind to follow California's example and ban new diesel and gasoline cars in the middle of the next decade.

This is written by CTInsider .

But Connecticut is not alone. Earlier this month, Virginia also jumped from a cap to follow California in trying to phase out the internal combustion engine.

– The idea that the government should tell people what kind of car they can or cannot buy is fundamentally wrong, says Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin.

While the resistance is now falling to the ground in several places on the other side of the Atlantic, for the time being it only seems to be faltering in our own latitudes.

However, there are several who expect the EU to change its mind as well. Among others, BMW's former board member Pieter Nota.

– A new EU Commission will, I suspect at least, decide on a postponement or adjustment of the ban no later than 2026. It's just inevitable, I think, says Nota.

Most recently, Mercedes has also announced that they will now bet huge sums on the development of the internal combustion engine, so that it will be relevant well into the new decade. Read more about it here .
