Gave the officer the finger – motorist gets DKK 1.2 million. kroner in compensation

Contempt for law enforcement is not a crime. Still, a motorist was arrested for giving an officer the finger. The police must now pay for that.

The police are very far from always being right, and the law enforcement in Vermont, USA, must now pay for that. Literally like that.

The law enforcement agency has agreed to pay 175,000 dollars in a settlement to a man who gave the finger to an officer he was stopped by.

But it is not a crime to despise the police. Therefore, the American Civil Liberties Union took up the case, and it has actually been on the cards since 2018. Now, however, it has ended in a settlement.

A settlement that means the police recognize that a fucking finger is not something you can be arrested for. The driver, Gregory Bombard, should not have been exposed to that in 2018 either.

But he was. And even more. Gregory Bombard was in jail for over an hour after his arrest. The police also had a whole year to drop all charges against the driver.

– Anyone who understands the most basic principles of the US Constitution knows that an officer cannot simply proceed to make an arrest simply because someone has stepped on their ego, says lawyer Jay Diaz, who represented Gregory Bombard in the settlement negotiations with the police, to NEW .

Now Gregory Bombard and the Civil Liberties Union must share the money, so that the motorist gets 100,000 dollars, while the organization gets the last 75,000 dollars for the help.

Incidentally, this is not the first time the police have made a mistake. Boosted has recently been able to report that a 20-year-old driver has been acquitted in the Western District Court of reckless driving in a very expensive Audi. Read more about it here .
