New theft wave goes after something no electric car can do without

In Sweden, electric car owners are increasingly being met by smashed charging stations which have been smashed and emptied of copper by thieves in the dead of night.

Copper thieves have plagued businesses and private citizens for years, and now some of the long-fingered types have turned their attention to charging points for electric cars.

More specifically of the kind that are set up for public use in Scania. First, one charging station was ripped for all the cables to the charging stations. Then the thieves struck again in exactly the same way.

It is the senior employees of the companies that are plagued by the thefts, who believe that the thieves are after the copper in the massive charging cables.

– It is very unfortunate. Because it's high season for car traffic, so this affects a lot of electric drivers, says Anne Petersson, head of business support at the charging operator More to the Helsingborgs Dagblad newspaper.

Right now, Mer is working to re-establish the dismantled charging stations as soon as possible. But that's no guarantee that the thieves won't come again.

At home, electric car drivers have been relatively spared this kind of vandalism. But it is seen for. Both in Stockholm and in the English town of Hungerford, it has been experienced that uninvited guests have run off with the charging cables.

However, this does not mean that drivers in petrol or diesel cars are completely free from theft. But as Boosted has described several times, this kind of thing is associated with significant danger.

Catalytic converters contain many valuable metals, but several times the thieves have gone very wrong. Some of them have even paid for the stupidity with their lives mast under a car. Read more about it here .
