Ford has sold the license – Escort and RS200 are resurrected

Ford has sold a license to Boreham Motorworks, allowing the British company to breathe new life into the Escort Mk.1 and RS200.

Boreham Motorworks has entered into a definitive license agreement with Ford. At least if you are a Ford fan.

For the agreement means that Boreham Motorworks must revive the Ford Escort Mk. 1. And not only that. Because the British have to build a brand new car called the RS200.

The first edition of a new Escort Mk. 1 will already premiere this year, and it will be built according to the original technical drawings. The agreement also means that Boreham must continue the range of frame numbers that Ford ended when the Mk.1 went out of production in 1974.

As for the RS200 model, it will be a whole new matter. But not nuanced in that Boreham sticks to both design features and the technical set-up: i.e. rear-wheel drive and central engine.

However, the agreement between Boreham Motorworks and Ford does not mean that Escort Mk.1s are now just being spit out on every street corner. Rather the contrary.

This is 'a very limited production', the parties write in a press release . And they won't actually get much closer. At least not this time.

We therefore also do not know anything about the price or the start of production. However, interested buyers can already sign up for a car on the project's official website. The cars are otherwise 'only' delivered to buyers in: Europe, USA, Canada, South America, England, Asia and the Middle East.

Interestingly, the parties also state that more car models will come out of the new agreement. The license includes the 'revival of at least 5 other cars'. And there is plenty to take away from Ford's catalog of classic cars. For example, who wouldn't like to see a Sierra Cosworth on the roads again?
