Artificial intelligence is now being integrated into Volkswagen's latest models

Volkswagen brings ChatGPT to its ID. models, Golf, Tiguan and Passat with new AI functions .

Volkswagen has announced that ChatGPT will be part of their latest generation of cars.

This update will be available in all new models of the electric ID. family as well as in the new Golf, Tiguan and Passat. By integrating ChatGPT with their existing IDA voice assistant, Volkswagen expands the possibilities of what the car's voice control can do.

Volkswagen is among the first major car brands to implement ChatGPT in their models. This has happened through a collaboration with the technology partner Cerence Inc., which is known for AI solutions for the automotive industry. ChatGPT, which will be available in Danish at the turn of the year, offers a wide range of functions that make interaction with the car more intuitive and versatile.

Volkswagen models equipped with the latest generation of infotainment systems can now benefit from the advanced features that ChatGPT brings.

The integration makes it possible for the driver to have search results read out and to interact with the car in a more natural way. For example, the driver can now get information about tourist attractions, hear about past sporting events or get help with mathematical problems by simply talking to the car.

Kai Grünitz, member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for development, states: "Volkswagen has a long tradition of democratizing technologies. As a volume manufacturer, we make these technologies available to a large number of people.

By seamlessly integrating ChatGPT into the backend of our voice assistant, we now offer customers the ability to use this artificial intelligence on a daily basis, underscoring how innovative our products are.”

The existing Volkswagen models already make it possible to control infotainment, navigation and air conditioning via the IDA voice assistant. With the addition of ChatGPT, this functionality is significantly expanded. Volkswagen customers with an existing VW Connect or VW Connect Plus account can continue to use the IDA voice assistant without the need for additional access or additional apps.

To activate the digital assistant, the driver simply says "Hello IDA" or presses a button on the steering wheel. If a query cannot be answered by Volkswagen's system, it is forwarded anonymously to ChatGPT, and the answer is then delivered by Volkswagen's voice. Volkswagen has ensured that ChatGPT does not gain access to the car's data, and all questions and answers are immediately deleted to protect the user's privacy.

The AI-based search function is already available in English (US and UK), Spanish, Czech and German. At the turn of the year, it will also be available in Danish, which further increases its usability for Danish customers.

The integration of ChatGPT is made possible through the collaboration with Cerence Inc., which uses Cerence Chat Pro technology. This system uses various sources, including ChatGPT, to provide accurate and relevant answers to almost all inquiries.
