Company behind Danish car business lays off 250 people

Norske Schibsted, which 4 years ago bought both Den Blå Avis and BilBasen, is cutting back significantly. This also means layoffs in Denmark.

Norwegian Schibsted, which in 2020 spent DKK 61 billion on the purchase of Danish BilBasen and Den Blå Avis, among others, has changed its mind.

A new strategy must slim down the company. And that means redundancies in both Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

This is confirmed by the company's managing director Christian Printzell Halvorsen, according to Reuters .

– These are not decisions we take lightly. We intend to carry out this process transparently, fairly and with respect for each individual who may be affected, says the director.

The layoffs come because Schibsted wants to create 'a more focused business'. The share also immediately rose by 4.17 percent on top of the news.

Since then, however, it has fallen slightly again. And at closing time on the stock exchange in Oslo, Schibsted had again declined by 2.05 percent. This is after a fall of 10.5 percent in the past month.

BilBasen and DBA are not the only 'car shops' that have to say goodbye to some of their colleagues here at home.

Recently, several Danish businesses with a focus on cars have had to turn the tables. Most, however, due to bankruptcies. In one case, a celebrity has been defrauded of a considerable amount of millions in a business where several Teslas have 'disappeared'. Read more about it here .

Most recently, the Danish Fisker Inc. of also sought bankruptcy protection. Something else Fisker initially assured the world was not the case on top of the parent company's own protection of creditors in the US.
