Bought a used Toyota for DKK 7,000 and got DKK 65,000 in compensation

How much can a car dealer keep his mouth shut when a car is sold 'for a customer'. The settlement has now cost 65,000 and a used Toyota.

A motorist who bought a 2009 Toyota in the autumn a few years ago has ended up with compensation of DKK 65,000.

Compensation comes from the car dealer who sold the car. The car is so worn and full of faults that the car owners should have been informed about it. Even if the car was sold for another of the car dealer's customers.

This has been decided by the Norwegian Consumer Complaints Board .

The driver, who quickly ran into problems with defective nozzles, succeeded in getting in touch with the car's previous owner. The person stated that the car dealer had been made aware of the car's problems.

– They (the dealer, ed.) knew it because I got so little in exchange for the car, says the former owner.

Information that just never passed on to the next owner. A Toytota workshop thought it could repair the car for DKK 40,000, while another workshop wanted DKK 36,500 for, among other things, to replace the nozzles.

However, the repair ended up costing 50,000 kroner, because much more than first thought was worn or defective on the car. The dealer must therefore cough up much more than the 15,000 kroner the Toyota owner was initially offered in a settlement.

The workshop bill of DKK 50,000 must also be covered. The decision is binding if the car dealer does not complain within 4 weeks.

However, a Toyota does not need to be so worn that it needs to be repaired for DKK 50,000. Per Wierod can sign that. Toyota covered his HiAce under warranty. So 26 years after the car was bought. Read more about it here .
