35 percent of drivers opt out of cars without this equipment

Up to 35 percent of motorists today respond that they avoid cars that are not equipped with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

It's hard to sell new cars these days. And it may become even more difficult in the future.

Motorists have been expected to have what equipment is in brand new cars. In fact, in a new global survey by McKinsey & Co., a third of motorists say they choose new cars that are not equipped with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay altogether.

However, there is a slight difference in how drivers view the equipment. Among electric car owners, the lack of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is a 'deal-breaker' in 30 percent of cases.

That's what Automotive News writes.

While 35 percent of motorists who choose new diesel and petrol cars, skip it if there is no such equipment in the cars.

This is bad news for a car group like American General Motors. In December last year, the management announced that they are opting out of both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in all new cars. This is done for the sake of motorists' safety, it said.

Conversely, the electric car owners are also the ones who are clearly most willing to pay for their cars to 'mirror' their phones. 30 percent of drivers will shell out for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, while that number is down to 17 percent among diesel and gasoline drivers.

However, the same survey also indicates thatalmost 40 percent of those who currently own an electric car are considering replacing it with a fossil car next time.

Although the market for new electric cars is expected to grow from just under 14 million cars last year to more than 30 million cars in 2030, motorists are still concerned about things such as battery life, the possibilities to charge on the go, the number of public charging stations, the price of electric cars and their range .
