BMW wants crushed cars from a ship fire – there is soot on them

In the Netherlands, BMW and some entrepreneurs who have bought some cars from a ship fire are at odds with each other. The battle pile is some cars that were on board a burning ship.

Just over a year ago, the cargo ship Fremantle Highway burned off the coast of Holland. On board were a number of new cars from several brands. Including 260 BMWs. There were a total of just over 1,000 cars on board the ship.

Since then, some entrepreneurs from Rotterdam bought the cars from an insurance company. The hope is to sell the cars on. But BMW has initially stopped that.

The German brand believes that the cars are so damaged by the fire that they are dangerous to drive around in. That's what RTVnoord writes .

BMW had the cars seized. And now the case has ended up in court, because the new owners believe that the cars have nothing on them but a bit of soot.

– It was just soot on the cars, says the lawyer hired by the entrepreneurs.

On the other hand, BMW, like Audi and Mercedes, who also had cars on board the cargo ship, believes that there is only an appropriate end to the case. Namely that the cars are crushed.

It is not the first time that disputes have arisen after a ship fire that have to be settled in court. Not even when it comes to cars.

Most recently, the Volkswagen group has been sued because, among other things, an insurance company believes the group is to blame for another famous fire. Read more about it here .
