Dealers to sue Jaguar for building electric cars

A number of Canadian car dealers are now threatening to sue Jaguar because the brand is sticking to the phasing out of all cars with internal combustion engines.

A number of Canadian car dealers will not accept that Jaguar will only build electric cars in the future. Therefore, the dealers are now threatening legal action.

That's what Automotive News writes.

The background to the lawsuit is straightforward. The dealers believe that they stand to lose an awful lot of money. In addition to the fact that Jaguar will exclusively sell electric cars, the brand – at least in Canada – will also switch to an online model.

This means that the brand has offered its dealers to close the part of the business that has to do with Jaguar. The dealers, who have spent an average of up to 20 million Canadian dollars per business to live up to Jaguar's requirements, but is compensated for.

Something the dealers believe the car brand is not willing to do. On the contrary, Jaguar is now cutting its sales targets. And quite significantly. A short time ago, the car brand wanted to sell 8,000 cars a year in the North American country. Now they are looking for 700 cars.

For the same reason, a number of the dealers now collectively say that they are ready to take Jaguar to court if a solution is not found within 'the next few weeks'.

At home, both car brands and dealers are also thrown at the door. In 15 years, 14 car brands, for example, have completely disappeared from an entire part of the country. Many of them within the past year. Read more about it here .

Back at the Canadian Jaguar importer, they have given up on the premium segment. The competition, especially with the German brands: BMW, Mercedes and Audi, is too tough.

Instead, Jaguar is betting on being able to capture Bentley customers with brand new 'ultra-luxury' electric cars at prices from 125,000 dollars, equivalent to 900,000 Danish kroner.

In Denmark, there will be only one Jaguar in the course of the first 4 months of 2024. This is shown by figures from the Danish Car Porters, which today call themselves Mobility.
