Volkswagen sells horsepower by subscription in Denmark

Mercedes has been doing it since 2022, and now Volkswagen also thinks extra horsepower is an excellent idea for the ID.3.

Mercedes and Polestar already do it.

In other words, customers offer that they can buy extra horsepower for electric cars. Now Volkswagen in Denmark will also participate in the ID.3

In the brand's online shop, which is linked to the car's infotainment system. This applies to all versions of the ID.3 except the cheapest Pure version. But this is no cheap entertainment.

For DKK 149 every single month – or for a one-off fee of DKK 5,850 – the cars get 231 horsepower instead of the factory-specified 204.

This means that the ID.3 will be one second faster – at least on paper – from 0 to 100 km/h. Specifically, the discipline shrinks to something that is over in 6.6 seconds.

Having said that, EV owners in particular need to be very careful when/if they succumb to the temptation to have extra horsepower under their right foot.

A lack of clearance with the authorities and not least the insurance company can mean that you as an electric car owner will have serious problems in the event of an accident. Read more about it here .
