Recalling electric car with rare fault – may leak oil

Nissan has recalled a very small number of Ariyas because a faulty o-ring can lead to oil spillage that can collect around the car's front electric motor.

Electric cars are not completely free of oil.

Nor the Nissan Ariya, which the Japanese are now recalling because the brand has discovered a possibly defective o-ring in the front electric motors.

The damaged o-ring can cause oil to leak out and collect in the electric motor, where it "causes abnormal wear".

Should the error occur, the Ariya will go into idle mode, which reduces the power from the engine, Nissan states in the recall.

In Sweden, 21 cars may be affected by the problem, while the American authorities want Nissan to recall 84 cars. Boosted has asked Nissan in Denmark if there are Danish cars among them. We are awaiting a response.

The Swedish importer informs Vibilagare that Nissan technicians will review the recalled cars. And if something has to be changed, it will take around 10 hours. If it becomes necessary to replace the individual car's front electric motor, it will be free of charge for the owner, according to Nissan.

Recalls are nothing new. Not even when it comes to electric cars. Most recently, Mercedes had to recall 100,000 electric cars due to a fault that was actually discovered in Denmark. Read more about it here .

With other car brands, however, there are significantly more cars. This is, for example, the case at Honda. The Japanese brand had to recall 2.6 million cars last year.

In fact, there are so many cars that the Japanese were afraid of going to market for spare parts. Specifically, the fuel pumps must be changed. Honda has found out that these from the factory do not fit the mold.

For a third brand, there are immediately more serious factory defects at stake. An error in production means that Ford may have destroyed 5,000 copies of the Transit van. Even so much that it cannot be repaired. Read more about it here .
