Nobody wants the cars – now Ford is laying off 1,600 people

Ford's sales are failing to such an extent that the brand has found it necessary to lay off 1,600 people at a factory in Valencia, Spain. However, not all holes are closed.

Ford is laying off 1,600 employees at the brand's factory in Valencia, Spain.

The layoffs are due to falling demand for the brand's cars. Especially the cars that leave the assembly lines in Spain. Although Ford in its home country has actually also scaled back production. Read more about it here.

The layoffs in Spain come after Ford announced last March that 1,100 jobs would be cut at the same factory.

Reuters writes that.

The factory, which employs 4,700 people, has told various unions to prepare members for 600 jobs to disappear permanently.

Ford is open to filling the remaining 1,000 positions with the same people at a later date, as there are plans to increase production at the factory in 2027.

– A temporary layoff is an option for the remaining 1,000 employees, so that the gap until the production of new cars begins can be closed, says a Ford spokesman.

In May, Ford, which has regretted its goal of only selling electric cars in Europe, said that from 2027 it will be able to build up to 300,000 new hybrid cars at the factory in Valencia. But right now there is no need for the majority of the employees.

However, it is not only in Valencia that Ford has problems. Despite previous denials from the Danish importer, Boosted can tell you that the brand is closing its factory in Saarlouis, Germany.

It will happen when the last Ford Focus hits the roads in 2025. The factory's new owner has nothing to do with cars. Read more about it here .
