It was the Norwegian Road Administration itself that approved the car. But now a dealer has to buy back a Mercedes that was inspected by mistake.
The Norwegian authorities should never have approved Knut Terje Bauge's Mercedes CLS. But it still happened at the customs inspection when the car arrived in the country.
This even though the car was both equipped with lights designed for countries with left-hand traffic. As is the case in England, Australia and Japan. Just to name a few countries.
The exhaust system on the 15-year-old Mercedes had also been tampered with. Both one and the other muffler were simply missing. The Norwegian authorities had simply not noticed that at the customs inspection.
Knut Terje Baug was first made aware of the faults when the car had to be periodically inspected last year. It is written by Motor .

It has since turned out that it is not possible to set the headlights for right-hand traffic, which should otherwise be the case. And it all ended with Knut Terje Bauge no longer having a car.
The dealer has bought it back. But Knut Terje Bauge bought a Nissan Leaf while it was being investigated whether the car could have its 'illegalities' rectified. Now the Norwegian authorities regret that the Mercedes was initially approved.
The whole case ended up in the High Court, where the car owner was right. Mercedes should never have been approved in Norway. So now the car dealer has been forced to take the car back and pay Bauge a compensation of NOK 200,000. This corresponds to 130,000 Danish kroner.
The authorities have subsequently called the case 'unfortunate'. But it is not only in Norway that the sight of cars is being cheated. At home, a majority in Christiansborg tightened the Danish rules in this area.
However, the rules have been tightened so much that the authority responsible for the area must postpone their implementation. The solution is simply not clear. Read more about it here .
