Isabella fears the EU will drop the ban on diesel and petrol

The Swedish politician Isabella Lövin is afraid that the EU will drop a ban on the internal combustion engine in 2035.

The EU elections are over. But Isabella Lövin, who previously sat in the European Parliament for the De Gronne party, fears that the newly elected parliament will use the opportunity to scrap the ban on petrol and diesel cars from 2035.

She tells this in an interview with Göteborgs-Posten .

– I am terrified of it.

– It will take a long time to change. But there are very powerful forces right now that would love to do that. We have to be energetic and smart there to ensure that it doesn't happen, says Lövin.

She does not yet know whether she has been given a place in the newly elected parliament. But her party can note that there have been three seats in the next election period, which extends over 5 years.

However, there are also politicians who have directly gone to the polls to have the ban on the internal combustion engine lifted. Among other things. the German parties CDU and CSU.

And Germany's finance minister would rather see the ban disappear completely. For Christian Lindner, however, it is about technological openness.

In fact, the German Finance Minister believes that the ban stands in the way of technological development. Just as he does not believe that politicians have the right to interfere in which cars motorists drive.

The Minister of Finance is not the only one who has spoken out about the ban on the internal combustion engine since the EU succeeded in getting it adopted. A former member of BMW's board believes that the EU Parliament will change its mind by 2026 at the latest. Read more about it here .
