There is no point in the production of electric motorcycles because they are simply not competitive, says BMW Motorrad director Markus Flasch.
There will be no such thing as an electric BMW motorcycle. At least not this time.
The head of the brand's motorcycle department, Markus Flasch, has taken that decision. The Vision DC Roadster concept has thus been consigned to the dustbin.
When BMW recently presented another two-wheeled concept, the R 20, at the Villa d'Este in the Italian capital of Rome, Flasch defended its decision.
– There is a logical and an emotional side to the answer.

– The logical side is that we have looked at numbers and other facts for the DC Roadster. And it is far in its development. But it is not as competitive as the M 1000 RR (a petrol-powered superbike from BMW, ed.), says the director according to the media Autodrive .
Markus Flasch also added that he has not succeeded in finding a motorcyclist who is willing to pay 30,000 euros to ride around a sow or ride up a mountain pass on an electric motorcycle.
– There is no. And there is absolutely no one who wants to say that they are going to the North Cape via Africa in that way, says the BMW manager.
Something else we can count on, on the other hand, is that BMW – i.e. the department on four wheels – will also keep the internal combustion engine alive. The Germans will not put any end date on the technology.
Instead, the development of both the diesel and petrol engines continues. There are even experiments with cars that run on hydrogen. In fact, the X5 on hydrogen is cheaper than the diesel version. Read more about it here .
