Officially, it is said that Citroën is changing its focus. But that change means death for the very small cars in particular.
Citroën is known for being a brand with a model range marked by both niche models and niche-like design. But it doesn't have to be like that anymore.
In fact, even the very small cars are disappearing from the French brand's model range. Instead, the focus must be on the 'fairly large cars'.
That's what Autocar writes.
In an interview with the media, the brand's managing director Thierry Koskas makes it clear that they are putting their efforts into the B and C segment. These are cars the size of the Citroen C3 and C5 Aircross – and everything in between.

This also means that there are no plans to revive the small city car C1, which as a triplet to the Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 108 was otherwise popular with Danish drivers in the mid-00s. Between 2005 and 2012, 73,000 copies of the twin cars were given Danish number plates.
But the collaboration is long over, and so are Citroën's plans for a continuation, if they ever existed. It's all about production costs.
– Motorists expect to pay less (for a C-segment car, ed.) compared to a car in the B-segment. But for us the production costs are the same, says Thierry Koskas.
In order to keep production costs at a level where the French think it makes sense, Citroën will build more cars on the C3's technology in the future. The so-called Smart platform, which can be made into hybrid, diesel and petrol cars as well as pure electric cars.
However, it is not only the small Citroën that is now disappearing. The future of the C5 X is not worth writing home about either.
– C5 X performs well. But it's in a segment that doesn't exist. Citroën must be in the B and C segments because these are the cornerstones of the brand, says the director.
In the slightly longer term, Citroën expects to slim down the model range, because in 2030 they will stick to the fact that there are only electric cars on the menu.
