He must have gotten a better offer. Ford's top director in Europe has indeed jumped over to the competitor Volkswagen.
It was Martin Sander, in his role as director of Ford in Europe, who decided that the brand should no longer sell petrol and diesel cars here. And that by 2030 at the latest.
However, Ford later regretted that decision. It is not known whether this is the direct reason why Martin Sander has left his position. But at least he is in the past.
So at Ford. Because he has received an offer to be in charge of Volkswagen's sales and marketing, and he has accepted it.
As head of Ford in Europe, it was initially Martin Sander who believed that the Europeans could well do without petrol and diesel cars in 2030. He was also primarily responsible for the scrapping of models such as the Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Galaxy and S- Max.

However, Martin Sander is not completely unknown in VW-land. He previously worked for Audi, and Ford's new electric Explorer is really just a Volkswagen ID.4 with different lights and logo.
