Back in April, the city government in New York introduced a toll ring for all traffic in central Manhattan. But the governor has now put the brakes on that indefinitely.
It is becoming more and more expensive to live in New York. Therefore, the city's motorists and others do not also have to pay to go in and out of the central district of Manhattan.
That's what Governor Kathy Hochul decided this week. And not only that. The city council is not allowed to introduce the payment ring at a later date.

Had the ban become a reality this time around, it would have meant that most road users would have had to pay up to 15 dollars, equivalent to 102 kroner a day, to get in and out of Manhattan.

The postponement comes at the last moment. Because the payment ring should already have been received this month. Specifically, June 30. Five years after it was initially written into law in New York.
