Fault discovered in Denmark – recalls 100,000 dead electric cars

The cars that mysteriously go out in the middle of the corsage. This is what Mercedes seems to be doing in both EQE and EQS. The recall applies to 100,000 electric cars.

Mercedes has a major worldwide recall underway.

Over 100,000 cars may have software problems that relate to the battery management in a number of electric cars. The problem causes the cars to shut down suddenly and without warning.

The fault was actually discovered in Denmark last autumn, when a dealer reported a fault due to too high a charge in a battery pack. Later, the same error appeared on cars in the United States.

Carup writes that.

Mercedes headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany now confirms that it is recalling 100,000 cars that may be affected by the error.

Initially, Mercedes focused on whether the fault can be found in the cars' battery management system. But further investigations have shown that the control system may be overloaded.

When the overloads happen, the cars are programmed to restart all systems. But Mercedes has come to the conclusion that the restart is happening for the wrong reasons.

Mercedes believes it has narrowed down the problem to an overabundance of data flowing to the wrong places in the cars and at all the wrong times. For the same reason, the Germans believe that they can correct the error with a software update, which the cars have to go to a workshop to get.

According to the American authorities, who initially notified Mercedes to initiate a recall, the cars concerned are cars produced in the period 1 February 2023 to 11 May 2024.

It is not known whether – and if so how many – Danish cars are among the recalled Mercedes. But since the error has been discovered in Denmark, it is not unthinkable.
