Several car brands have cheated – production is closed immediately

Several Japanese car brands have been ordered to stop production, sales and shipping of several car models that have been tampered with.

It is not only Toyota that these days admits to having cheated on certification in connection with crash tests of new cars.

Honda, Mazda and Suzuki have also caught the attention of the Japanese authorities due to suspicions of cheating with safety and the cars' CO2 emissions.

For the same reason, the car brands have been ordered to shut down production, stop all sales and shipping of the affected cars.

Reuters writes that.

Among other things, Mazda has admitted 'irregularities in connection with crash tests'. Therefore, sales of the MX-5 and Mazda2 in Japan have been suspended.

– We sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience this may cause to our customers and stakeholders who place their trust in Toyota, reads a statement from the brand.

Back at Mazda, the management has already acknowledged that there has been cheating with crash tests, which affect 'more than 150,000 cars'. The scandal is an extension of another scandal at Toyota-owned Daihatsu.

Last year it emerged that the Japanese brand has cheated and manipulated safety since 1989. In December 2023, production was stopped. But that's not Toyota's only problem.

Hino, which makes trucks and is also owned by Toyota, was already accused of cheating in August 2022. The brand has been manipulating emissions from internal combustion engines for at least 20 years. Read more about it here .
