Violent floods close Audi factory

A firefighter has died, several have had to flee their homes and now Audi is shutting down a factory after severe flooding in Germany.

A firefighter has died and several Germans have fled their homes after torrential rain at the weekend caused severe flooding near Ingolstadt.

And now Audi has had to cancel several planned shifts at its factory because the employees simply cannot come to work.

Reuters writes that.

The assembly lines that, according to the news agency, have been affected send Audi A3 and Q2 models onto the roads. It is the second time in a short time that Audi has had to put production on hold or cut back sharply.

However, it is not all due to wind and weather conditions. At the moment, the Belgian government is fighting to get the brand to stay in the country.

This even though Audi has fired 371 employees at its factory in the country. However, this is due to very little demand for the car that the employees build.

Before Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo meets with Audi's management at the end of April, he told the press that production at the factory is 'secured'. At least until 2027, when the car brand plans to phase out the current Q8 model.

Back at the Audi factory in Germany, people are affected by floods at a time when the German government is warning that it will be possible to ban Germans from driving at weekends in order to allow the country to meet its climate goals. Read more about it here .
