BMW and Volkswagen will be allowed to emit more C02

Despite continued development of the internal combustion engine, modern cars cannot meet the EU's increasingly strict requirements. BMW and Volkswagen will be allowed to emit more and thus avoid wild stalls.

At a time when the car brands are almost in a row to draw ceilings for electric cars in the country, BMW and the Volkswagen group will be allowed to pollute more.

Or at least more than the EU currently allows new cars to screw up when it comes to CO2 emissions.

Specifically, neither Volkswagen nor BMW believe that they can meet the EU's increasingly strict emission requirements. So to avoid stalls, the cars will have raised the pollution limit.

That's what Automotive News writes.

– It does not make sense for the industry to pay fines when the framework conditions for the development of the electric car are not yet in place, said Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume when the company presented the annual accounts for 2023.

Not even at BMW are they satisfied with the prospect of stalls in an order of magnitude that looks like billions of kroner. Those conditions are unreasonable, says director Oliver Zipse.

– At the end of 2025, the world will find that it is not that easy. And then the pressure on the European car industry will be significant, said Oliver Zipse during a fashion where the brand published the annual accounts.

There is no mistaking the situation that the car manufacturers face either. 95 euros must be paid per grams of CO2, the limit value is exceeded. That amount must then be multiplied by the number of cars the individual brands have built.

The Volkswagen Group alone can therefore look forward to a stall of just under 30 billion Danish kroner, if the current stall system is taken up for reconsideration.

On the other hand, none of the car brands have said that they will be allowed to completely ignore electric cars. For example, Volkswagen is still adamant that it will only sell electric cars in Europe in 2033. At BMW, it is expected that half of sales will be made up of new electric cars in 2030.
