20-year-old acquitted of reckless driving in hugely expensive Audi

The High Court has overturned the conviction for insanity that a now 20-year-old man received for insanity in the district court.

A leasing company has returned an Audi A6 for DKK 600,000 . And a today 20-year-old man escapes a very long sentence as a convicted insane driver.

The 20-year-old, who wishes to remain anonymous, tells Boosted. However, the editors are aware of the man's full identity.

The case began in April 2022, when the police believed that they stopped the young man on Østerbrovej in Brondby for speeding. The district court also thought the same in the first instance.

However, the Eastern High Court in Copenhagen has come to a markedly different result after hearing the appeal. The police cannot prove that the now 20-year-old man undoubtedly drove at least 151 km/h on Østerbrovej in Brondby, which is a 60-zone.

The officer behind the wheel believed that he had seen the speedometer in the police car once.

– I was put in the back seat of the police car, while my two friends were frisked and the car was searched. The officers claimed I had a 150km/h card. But showed no speed measurement, writes the 20-year-old to Boosted.

It also appears from the transcript of the judgment that the Eastern High Court does not find it proven that there were cards as quickly as the police claim.

However, the 20-year-old would like to acknowledge that he cut too quickly. He believes that the speedometer in the Audi showed 90 km/h at most. The High Court says 97 km/h.

For the same reason, the 20-year-old did not go unpunished either. In addition to a fine of DKK 4,200, it resulted in a driving ban until a new choir and theory test has been passed.

– I am satisfied with that, writes the 20-year-old, who believes that it is a more realistic estimate of the speed, which he admits to having cards with.

The case also means that the state treasury must pay the costs of the case and that the leased Audi is returned after two years of seizure.
