Aston Martin listens to drivers – keeps V8 and V12 engine

Both parts should otherwise have been placed in the grave. But now Aston Martin is changing the saddle and keeping the V8 and V12 engines alive according to customers' wishes. A V6 has been dropped.

Aston Martin is not ready to build electric cars.

Or rather – the car brand's customers want something different. Namely combustion engines with both 8 and 12 V-shaped cylinders. Less could do it, but Aston Martin, on the other hand, doesn't want to. Not afterall.

That's what Car Throttle writes.

In an interview with the media, the brand's chief strategist Alex Long explains that it is about feelings behind the wheel. Emotions a V6 engine – unlike those with 8 and 12 cylinders – cannot bring out in drivers.

The announcement comes just 4 years after Aston Martin said that it was in full swing developing a V6 engine as a replacement for the turbocharged V8 from AMG in Affalterbach.

– It's not just about being able to sing as quickly as possible. I want to put some emotion into it. Some sound and some rumbling.

– Here the V8 and V12 engines have traditionally been used for something special. The same cannot be said about the V6 engine, says Alex Long.

The chief strategist emphasizes that the demand for cars with V8 engines in particular has been steadily increasing since the corona pandemic.

At the same time, Alex Long explains that Aston Martin's customers probably own an electric car, but that they also want the more raw driving experience from a car with a combustion engine.

And he is not alone in thinking that. Most recently, it has emerged that Mercedes has allegedly regretted the brand's prominent use of the 2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. At least that it has gone beyond the V8 engine. So now the Germans are getting ready for a comeback. Read more about it here.

Others – including Croatian Rimac – are not at all so sure that drivers who have a lot of money will even bother to spend it on electric cars. Bugatti, which Rimac owns, also has a gigantic engine with a whopping 16 cylinders. Read much more about it here .
