Porsche's new hybrid engine weighs 26 kilos and is made by Rimac

Developed jointly with Rimac, Porsche has reduced the weight of the hybrid part for a number of new 911 models to just 26 kilos.

Porsche has unveiled a new model year of the 911.

And it's not just a new model year, the 2025 cars are the first ever in the 911 range to get a hybrid part.

We have known for several years that the car would come. Especially because Porsche itself confirmed it several times. No later than 2021. In the meantime, more than 5 million test kilometers have been completed. At least if you ask Porsche itself. Read more about it here.

The crazy thing is that the whole package, although Porsche can turn up and down the effect depending on the model, weighs just 26 kilos. This is due, among other things, to the fact that the hybrid part has been developed in collaboration with Rimac, which Porsche has partially owned since the VAG group's deal with the Bugatti brand in 2021.

In the new 911 Carrera GTS, the insanely light battery pack means that the new model has gained just 50 kilos compared to the current model.

And not only that. For the new 911 Carrera GTS, the engine is also growing. The six-cylinder boxer goes from 3.0 to 3.6-liter displacement. This means an increase in power to a total of 541 horsepower.

In comparison, the current 911 Carrera GTS has to be 'nudged' with 480 horsepower. Hagen knows it all? The new hybrid Porsche only comes with the PDK gearbox. So automatic transmission.

That said, not all of Porsche's range of 911 models will become hybrids. For example, there are absolutely no plans for a hybrid-powered GT3 when the current model is to be replaced in 2027.
