Opel recalled 9,800 cars with embarrassing fault

Exactly how the error occurred is uncertain. But Opel had to check almost 10,000 cars for wrong chassis numbers.

Even with the high technology with which cars are manufactured today, mistakes can occur. Also at the Opel factory in Rüsselsheim.

The Stellantis group, of which Opel is today a part, has had to recall as many as 9,800 copies of the latest Astra.

All to check if the cars are now also equipped with the correct chassis number printed into the B-pillar of the Astra model.

The owners of the cars, all built in 2023, were asked to go to the workshop for the same reason. If it turned out that a wrong frame number appeared, Opel had to change the entire plate with the number printed on it.

However, it is not in all cases that Opel has corrected the error. Onan English forum , an Astra owner writes that despite the recall, his Vauxhall (as Opel calls its cars in England, ed.) was fitted with yet another wrong chassis number.

In fact, it is not so rare that car brands have to issue several recalls to correct the same problem several times.

Most recently, it has happened to Mazda, although the brand has tried to correct the error several times. However, it is something more serious than an incorrect chassis number. Read more about the matter here .

That kind of thing, however, Honda can top. At least in numbers. Last year, the Japanese brand recalled a whopping 2.6 million cars. So many that it was feared to lob Tor for spare parts in connection with a check for faulty fuel pumps.
