Polestar rejects new trend – "not in our cars"

Several new cars – and not just those that run on electricity – are a sea of light in the cabin. Polestar doesn't want to be involved in that kind of thing.

It may well be that Polestar no longer denies that they want to build another hybrid car. But one thing does not come out of the Chinese brand.

Namely, cars with interiors that light up like disco balls. Polestar's chief designer Nahum Escobedo flatly rejects that idea.

– Another trend we have started to see quite often is interior and exterior, especially interior, where you can choose any color you want.

– There will be so many lights everywhere that it feels like I'm in a miniature version of Las Vegas. So many buttons, so many lights: purple, green, orange.

Escobedo does not care much about the competitors' use of the cars' lights either. At least not as it stands right now.

– Many have started to integrate welcome lighting and other things. It will be something like Christmas tree lighting on the street, says the design manager in an interview with Australian Which Car .

Just that with an almost minimalistic use of buttons in new cars strongly suggests that Polestar is going to be on its own.

And not just because a certain number of buttons becomes a requirement for car factories that want to achieve the highest possible safety rating from Euro NCAP. Read more about it here.

But also because several car brands have now started to return to the physical buttons. Among other things, Volkswagen has had to give in, so that the physical buttons now return to the steering wheel. And at Lucid Motors, it sounds like the buttons are here to stay.
