The police seize 300 very illegal bottles from a van

Two people from opposite ends of the country have been arrested and charged in a case involving a van in which the police found nitrous oxide, which has been illegal since 1 July 2023.

On Wednesday, South Jutland Police carried out a planned action related to a case of trading in nitrous oxide. During the action, a patrol stopped a van on the motorway between Vejle and Fredericia.

In the van, 300 bottles of nitrous oxide were found, which in total amounted to approximately 200 kilos. This is what the South East Jutland Police write in a press release .

In connection with the find, two men, a 23-year-old from Vejle and a 39-year-old from Copenhagen, were arrested and charged with possession of the nitrous oxide bottles with a view to resale.

The 39-year-old man was also charged with breaching the executive order on the transport of dangerous goods. Both men have subsequently been released, but they are still charged in the case.

The rules for the possession, sale and transport of nitrous oxide were tightened on 1 July 2023, making it illegal to possess and sell nitrous oxide as an intoxicant, unless you as a company or private person have a good reason to use the substance.

Depending on the amount of nitrous oxide you are in possession of, you risk a fine of between DKK 3,000 and DKK 5,000. If you have more than 2,700 grams of gas, the fine can rise to DKK 50,000. It is also illegal to possess nitrous oxide in choir uniforms, which may result in additional stalls.

It is far from the first time that the police have found large quantities of nitrous oxide in this way. Even when the ban on nitrous oxide in cars was just a few hours old, the first motorist fell into the trap. Read more about it here.

Since then, several motorists have been killed in the same way. Among other things, it became very expensive for a 26-year-old man back in April. He was stopped in a routine check and otherwise speeded up the stall when he was found in possession of nitrous oxide.
