90 percent of drivers may want to consider an electric car in 2033

According to a new survey, motorists who are currently skeptical of the electric car are expected to get used to the type of car in the coming years.

A new survey indicates that the vast majority of drivers will at least consider getting into an electric car within the next three to five years.

This development is taking place in line with the fact that the barriers that electric cars are currently affected by are becoming fewer. At the same time, more electric cars are coming on the market, which may push the price down.

The survey, which Cox Automotive is behind, does not mean, however, that the majority of drivers in the next decade will actually drive around in electric cars. But 90 percent will consider doing it. At least in the US.

The development is linked to the electric car's own development and the infrastructure of charging stations on which the car type depends. The more electric cars and charging stations there are, the more people will at least consider the purchase.

The survey was published by Cox Automotive at a time when motorists are less interested in electric cars. And the same is the case with car brands.

Most recently, it is rumored that Mercedes has chosen to drop the development of several electric cars. At the same time, Ford has publicly announced that it will no longer only sell electric cars in Europe.

However, electric cars may become the only thing that makes sense. New EU rules mean that fuel – similar to the conditions during the latest energy crisis in 2022 – will become outrageously expensive in Denmark. Read more about it here.

Back at the survey on drivers' considerations, Isabelle Helms, deputy director of Cox Automotive, does not believe that the declining interest in electric cars plays any major role.

– Although we see a slow growth in sales of electric cars and a declining interest, we believe that this is part of a normal growth curve and not the end of the story.

– In the long run, many skeptics will at the end of this year at least consider buying an electric car. Sales of electric cars will increase in the long run and grow in line with people's understanding, the infrastructure and technological development, says Isabelle Helms.
