Motorist hit everything but the road – then came the sweeper

A minor traffic accident resulted in a 38-year-old man being charged with reckless driving and the police taking the car from him on the spot.

A 38-year-old lost both his car and his driving license on Thursday evening in what was initially just a minor traffic accident in Faxe.

At quite low speed, the man had hit a tree. At least that's what witnesses who called the police explained.

Fearing that the man might have felt unwell behind the wheel, witnesses rushed to his rescue.

This is what the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police write in the police report .

However, it was a strong smell of alcohol that caused the witnesses, who initially wanted to help the injured driver, to contact the police.

Once at the scene, the law enforcement authorities were also able to establish that there was something about the witnesses' abilities and not least their sense of smell. The man had sat stiffly behind the wheel.

The 38-year-old, who is from Skovlunde, blew the breathalyzer brought by the police well above the blood alcohol level of 2.0, which is the limit for insanity.

For the same reason, the man was arrested and taken for a blood test. It will now determine exactly how under the influence of alcohol he was when he hit the tree.

If he is convicted of reckless driving, the 38-year-old should not expect to see either his driver's license or anything for the car again. The custom in these kinds of cases is a long period without pretrial detention, a period behind bars and the state confiscating the car.

It is, among other things, something else happened in Denmark's probably most talked about case of madness. However, the man who ended up being convicted bought a Porsche to prove himself. Read more about it here .
