Cyclists will prohibit all motorists from speeding over 20 km/h

If it is up to the Swedish Cyclists' Association – Cykelfrämjandet – all motorists must be prohibited from speeding over 20 km/h in the cities.

Motorists are already a reviled public. Both at home and abroad, several city councils want to reduce the permitted speed.

But now the Swedish cyclists' association, Cykelfrämjandet, wants to ban all the country's motorists from speeding over 20 km/h in all Swedish cities.

This is written by Sveriges Radio .

– If it is 20 km/h, you can almost let children out in that environment. Then you feel safe, says the association's chairman Per Hasselberg to the media.

Actually, the Swedish Cyclists' Association will also accept a speed limit of 30 km/h, but they prefer that the cyclists can cycle faster than the cars can. And therefore the speed should preferably be reduced to 20 km/h.

The background for the request for the lower speed is figures from the Swedish Transport Agency. The authority's figures show that the number of seriously injured or killed cyclists has not fallen in the same way as the number of serious accidents among motorists. At least not in the past ten years.

At the same time, figures show that every eighth person who dies in traffic is a cyclist. Still, the EU wants the number of cycling trips to increase.

On the other hand, a poll among Danish motorists has already revealed that cyclists are the most dangerous in traffic. Read more about it here .
