A number of Chevrolet Bolt owners may be entitled to compensation because fires have occurred in their electric vehicles. Over 10,000 cars are still missing new battery packs.
In every way, the Chevrolet Bolt has been a rolling scandal for the General Motors group.
And now drivers who own such a car may be eligible for compensation. Chevrolet has entered into a settlement with the battery supplier LG Energy Solution.
Each Bolt owner who has been exposed to a fire in the car can get 1,400 dollars out of the settlement, which amounts to 150,000 million dollars, corresponding to a little more than 1 billion Danish kroner.
Reuters writes that.

How much each Chevrolet Bolt owner can get depends on what has happened to the car and how old it is. The settlement only covers cars built between 2017 and 2022. The model was in production until December 2023.
A series of fires in the type of battery that the Chevrolet Bolt is equipped with has forced the car brand to recall more than 110,000 cars. Some owners have to wait years to have the battery packs in their cars replaced.
Court documents prepared in connection with the settlement negotiations show that almost 80,000 battery packs have already been replaced in the problematic cars.
But there are still over 22,500 drivers who will be entitled to the largest possible compensation. Partly because Chevrolet has only equipped these cars with a battery pack monitor as a temporary solution. The brand still needs to change the battery packs in over 10,000 cars.
The problems with fires in Bolt models were at one point so bad that Chevrolet advised owners to park outside and very far away from everything else. Read more about it here.
