New figures: Pedestrians are worst at respecting messy lights

Pedestrians blow on whether there is a red light or not. Also more than the drivers do. According to a new study.

Who cares the most whether the traffic light is messy or not?

The answer is perhaps somewhat surprising – the pedestrians. This is the conclusion of a new survey carried out by M Sweden, the Swedish answer to FDM.

The organization states this in a press release .

The survey is based on 12,000 observations from nine locations around Sweden, and here the pedestrians are the ones with the least respect for the rules.

Rules that, among other things, are entrenched to increase their own security. But the expression 'root man stand, green man walk' thus plays little or no role at all for this type of 'traffic user'.

The survey also shows that only two percent of the observed passenger cars chose to blow in the face of clutter. Maybe because that kind of thing in Sweden costs 3,000 kroner.

Here at home, the same costs 2,500 (Danish) kroner and a clip in the choir card. Pedestrians who wade through mess will get away with a fine of DKK 700.

However, it could have been free to commit that 'offence'. At least if the Liberals had got what the party proposed in 2014. Here, the party's legal spokesman at the time, Karsten Lauritzen, would make it legal for everyone to get into trouble.

But that sort of thing does not work in Sweden, where today – 10 years later – it is still strictly observed that even pedestrians do not just wade through red lights.

РUnprotected road users are vulnerable in traffic. They risk the most serious injuries in accidents, says Tony Gunnarsson, road safety expert at Riksf̦rbundet M Sweden.

The proportion of road users who ignore red lights (in percent, ed.)
Pedestrians: 13%
Cyclists: 9%
Motorcyclists: 3%
Motorists: 2%
Trucks: 2%
Taxi drivers: 1%
