Another Schumacher gives up his dream of Formula 1

David Schumacher has put perhaps the biggest dream of every racing driver on the shelf. The 22-year-old son of Ralf Schumacher no longer believes in the possibility.

David Schumacher – unlike his father – will never drive Formula 1.

The 22-year-old German race choir is now putting the dream, which his father, Ralf Schumacher himself, managed to fulfill, on the shelf.

He tells Auto Bild that.

– I think the dream will always live on in the back of my mind. But if you look at it realistically, a line has been drawn over the subject of Formula 1, says the young German.

David Schumacher hasn't sat in a Formula racer for long either. The last lob was in the Formula 3 class in 2021. Since then, he has briefly been in the DTM, where he is still a hot name.

This year he will take part in the GT Masters series, and this is, from a sporting point of view, another step down. But Schumacher takes it with a kind of elevated calm.

– It gives me time to tackle the challenges outside the limelight, compete and develop even more, it says.

And why not continue with the Formula cars? Money is the answer. Because even if you have a famous surname, a father and uncle, the money tank is not necessarily bottomless.

And that sort of thing is almost necessary. Just to participate in Formula 3, 3 million euros, equivalent to 22.4 million kroner, must be invested. And that's money that David Schumacher just can't find.

Ralf Schumacher's son is not the only young Schumacher who may have to park the Formula 1 dream forever.

His cousin, Mick, who is the son of Michael Schumacher, was fired by Haas in November 2022. And since then – despite a reserve service at McLaren and Mercedes – has not been able to make himself attractive to other Formula 1 teams.

Much suggests that the Schumacher name is a thing of the past in Formula 1. At least on the track. However, this does not mean that the family is forgotten. In particular, the tragic accident that befell Michael Schumacher in 2013 is still the subject of great debate. Read more about it here.
