Mercedes stops the development of several new electric cars

Mercedes has found reverse gear when it comes to electric car development. Now the brand's customers must decide how much speed is needed to change the model range.

Just a few years ago, Mercedes swore that by 2030 it would be the end of electric cars.

But now the brand from Stuttgart is well on its way to undoing those plans. The managing director, Sten Ola Källenius, now says that no one knows when the internal combustion engine will be a thing of the past.

But according to the German Handelsblatt, the director does more than that.

Allegedly, the director plans to put an end to the development of the platforms for two larger electric cars – namely the E- and S-Class.

The German media writes that the MB.EA-Large should have been on the market in 2028 and designed as the upcoming versions of the E- and S-Class. Mercedes would have spent billions of kroner on the development – i.a. on saving the electric cars from weight. But now those plans have been put on hold.

Instead, the Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA2) platform, on which Mercedes is already building the electric cars EQS and EQE, must be further developed.

Much apropos of the current electric cars in the Mercedes model range, they are actually disappearing. Read more about how it is connected here .
