Shell is closing 1,000 gas stations to invest in lightning chargers

Within the next two years, the energy company Shell plc. close down 1,000 gas stations to invest in lightning chargers instead.

While the car manufacturers waver in their faith as to whether they should exclusively produce electric cars when we reach 2030, the energy giant Shell is going in the direction of the current.

Literally like that. Specifically, Shell expects to pack up 1,000 gas stations in the course of this year and next year.

The company itself states that the closures will take place where the demand for electric cars is greatest. The energy giant believes this to be the case in China and Europe.

This is what Yahoo Finance writes.

– We are upgrading our dealer network with increased charging options and conveniences for electric car owners. This is happening as a response to changing customer needs, says the company.

Today, Shell's network of charging stations consists of just over 54,000 points on a global scale. However, this is expected to have increased to 200,000 charging points by 2030 at the latest.

Here at home, there was a little longer between Shell's gas stations last year, when an agreement with the Reitan group, which is behind the 7-Eleven stores, fell through.

In total, it concerns 57 Shell stations that changed names. The last of the planned closures of Danish Shell stations from that agreement is expected to be closed this month. So the month of May 2024. Read more about it here .

While Shell chooses to pivot in several places – and thus also in Denmark – the car factories, as mentioned, waver in the belief that electric cars are the only right thing.

A large number of car brands have spent the last while, to a greater or lesser extent, undoing or as big plans for electric cars.

Among other things. As recently as last week, doubts were cast on whether Croatian Rimac will ever build an electric hypercar again. The customers are not there, admits director Mate Rimac. Read more about it here.

In the same week, Ford announced that it will not only sell electric cars on the European continent in 2030 after all. Mercedes has the same attitude elsewhere.
