The ban on fossil fuel cars is a mistake, Germans now say

While several car manufacturers are now wavering in their faith as to whether their assembly lines should only spit out new electric cars, the German party CDU wants to lift the ban on new petrol and diesel cars.

After joining hands with Germany and several other member states, last year the EU succeeded in banning new diesel and petrol cars from 2035.

With the exception that synthetic fuels will be allowed. But now the German conservative party CDU and sister party CSU want the ban rolled back completely.

The Berliner Zeitung writes that.

In a joint statement, the parties state that they wish to maintain "the lead Germany has when it comes to the internal combustion engine". For the same reason, the parties believe that both the petrol and diesel engines must be further developed.

But it must be done through a technology-neutral approach. In this connection, the parties will have initiated an investigation of the advantages and disadvantages of taking a neutral approach to technology within the automotive industry.

– The ban on the internal combustion engine was a wrong decision. We must now rectify this as soon as possible.

– Electric cars have problems with acceptance by motorists, and the charging infrastructure is deficient, says Jens Gieseke, head of negotiations for the proposal in the so-called EPP group in the EU Parliament.

The same EPP group will vote this summer, when there are elections for the European Parliament, to roll back the ban on the internal combustion engine.

After several years of wild increases in sales of electric cars, the car type has been sent back strongly. At the same time, several of the major car manufacturers have begun to doubt whether the electric car is the only right thing.

Lately, Ford has announced that it will not only sell electric cars in Europe in 2030 after all. And from Mercedes it sounds like the fossil and electric cars will be a couple for many years to come.
