Special car service is permanently shut down in Denmark

It is no longer connected with cars on a form of subscription, therefore the Danish car importer Semler is now closing the venture Dribe.

Subscription cars did not become the success that the Danish VAG importer Semler Gruppen had hoped for.

Therefore, the service is now shutting down. It also happens with an operating deficit, which Dribe has not been able to get rid of since the company was founded in 2017.

That's what Borsen writes.

In 2023 alone, the deficit will rise to DKK 12.4 million, while overall almost DKK 300 million has been wasted on keeping the company open.

Dribe's idea was to rent out cars, right down to a period of 30 days. In the amount that the drivers gave for rent, both insurance and roadside assistance were included.

But Ulrik Drejsig, director of the Semler Group and chairman of the board of Dribe, must admit that the Danes don't mind.

– We must state that the willingness to pay has taken another downward swing due to the ongoing price war, interest rates and inflation, reads a written comment to the exchange.

Dribe is not the only service that is now disappearing from the roads. Several companies have closed car-sharing schemes at home, while others have turned some around abroad to concentrate on the Danish market.

Among the car brands, certain services for car owners have also been shut down. On May 4, Fisker Inc. announced for example, that a service was stopped immediately in Denmark. Read more about it here .

Back at Dribe, the idea of subscription cars has not been completely put to rest. Back in March, the company announced that it was trying abroad. And those plans apparently continue as the Danish part is shut down.
