29-year-old Kenneth used Instagram to steal 25 cars

The 29-year-old American Kenneth Dwayne Westbrook has been indicted for being behind a car theft crime ring based on the social media Instagram.

The US authorities believe that 29-year-old Kenneth Dwayne Westbrook has stolen at least 25 cars. And that he has used the social media Instagram to do it.

The 29-year-old American then sold the cars on to members of Mexican cartels.

This is what the US Federal Police's FBI branch in Houston, Texas writes on the social media "X". The former Twitter.

According to the FBI, Westbrook's modus operandi was simple. On Instagram, he found people who he hired to rent a number of different cars. Including several Jeep models.

But instead of returning the cars when the lease period ended, Kenneth Westbrook paid someone to drive the cars to Mexico, where they were resold.

In Mexico, the US Federal Police believe that the new 'owners' of the cars are members or people connected to drug cartels.

From here, details about the investigation are few and far between. But it is already established that the 29-year-old American faces up to 20 years in prison. Just as a fine of 250,000 dollars, equivalent to 1.73 million Danish kroner, awaits him.

Car theft is unfortunately widespread. In fact, in some places it is such a big problem that there is no room for all the cars when they are found abandoned again. Read more about it here .
